The previous design was better for me
I recently purchased the new Pacsafe V anti-theft companion crossbody 5L to replace my old one after years of heavy use. Unfortunately, the updated model falls short in several key areas compared to the previous version, which suited my needs much better.
The main issue is the new locking system. In the old design, the lock was placed discreetly on the side, smaller in size, and almost invisible. The front pocket and the main pocket were completely independent, so I could unlock one without touching the other. Even the zipper pulls were smaller and smoother.
In contrast, the new model uses a large, bulky metal lock placed right in the middle at the top of the bag. To secure the bag, you have to interlock both zipper pulls in a way that is not intuitive, then insert them into a fixed base on the top, and you must also lock the second pocket in the same place. The result is a very large and noticeable locking block that draws attention and clearly signals that the bag is locked, which can make it seem like you’re carrying something valuable. Another inconvenience is that you cannot open just one pocket—you must unlock both.
Additionally, each compartment now has double zipper pulls. If you choose not to lock the bag, the two metal pulls will constantly hit each other and make noise with every step, like a small bell.
I truly wish the old design were still available for purchase, because I would have bought it again without hesitation.
